Mexico City-based Megacable will spend more than USD200 million in 2015, as it seeks to improve its networks and launch a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business. Enrique Yamuni, director of Megacable, told El Economista: ‘We are making record investments this year, about 20% more than last year in terms of dollars (USD) and 30% more in terms of pesos (MXN). Last year we invested approximately USD175 million and this year our investment will be more than USD200 million.’
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s MVNO Monday, last month Megacable reportedly entered into dialogue with America Movil (AM)-backed Telcel regarding wholesale MVNO terms, as it plots a return to the MVNO sector. The Guadalajara-based firm became one of Mexico’s first virtual operators back in October 2011, when it launched over Movistar’s network, but struggled to gain traction in the market.
