12 Mar 2015

Ecuadorian state-owned full-service operator Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) is this week extending its commercial 4G LTE mobile services to Cuenca, the capital of Azuay Province in the highlands of southern-central Ecuador, according to newspaper El Tiempo. Having launched full commercial LTE services in Quito and Guayaquil in March 2014, CNT – currently the country’s sole LTE provider – extended the network to the cities of Ambato, Santo Domingo, Manta and Portoviejo through the remainder of the year, before recently announcing on its website the expansion of 4G to additional zones including the western province of Santa Elena (including areas such as Salinas and Montanita). CNT’s ongoing second phase rollout involves deployment of 350 LTE base stations in areas including Cuenca, Esmeraldas, Ibarra Loja Machala and Riobamba.
