Vodafone set for summer VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling

11 Mar 2015

Vodafone UK will reportedly introduce both Wi-Fi calling and voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) this summer, according to Total Telecom. With both technologies having reportedly been trialled for several months in laboratory conditions, Vodafone is expected to launch customer trials of VoLTE before introducing it commercially later this year.

Meanwhile, with regards to Wi-Fi calling Vodafone UK chief executive Jeroen Hoencamp was cited as saying: ‘Our Wi-Fi calling service will ensure that our customers never miss a call … It is another important step towards our commitment to build the UK’s strongest converged network.’ With the service designed to automatically provide customers with a voice signal without the need to go through an app, Vodafone has claimed the technology is particularly suited to those customers living in rural and remote regions where network coverage is limited or where it is difficult to get an indoor signal.
