FCC selects Telcordia to administer portability database

6 Mar 2015

The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) Wireline Competition Bureau has circulated a draft order signalling its intention to initiate contract negotiations with Telcordia, which it has selected to become its Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA). The decision marks the end of an era for the regulator: Neustar has served as the LNPA since 1997. The process to select the body has been underway since 2011, the FCC notes, while the next available termination date for Neustar’s contract falls on 30 June 2015. Neustar has performed the role in association with an industry group, North American Portability Management, which recommended that the watchdog use a competitive tender process to select its next LNPA.
