Avantel taps Nokia for VoLTE, small cells

5 Mar 2015

Colombian telco Avantel has selected Nokia Networks to deploy Voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) technology services in the country. The platform will initially be rolled out in Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga. In addition, Nokia has confirmed that it has implemented its Flexi Zone LTE small cell solution to further enhance Avantel’s network capacity and coverage in major urban and rural areas. The Flexi Zone deployment is expected to pave the way for the country’s first commercial LTE small cell network later this year.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database Avantel switched on its Nokia-built LTE network in 20 cities August 2014, following a USD250 million rollout.
