Ooredoo unit Indosat taps Ericsson for Indonesian M2M

4 Mar 2015

Indonesian mobile operator Indosat, which is backed by Qatar’s Ooredoo Group, has launched a cloud-based Machine-to-Machine (M2M) platform in the country, in partnership with equipment supplier Ericsson. The cellco will use the Swedish vendor’s Ericsson Device Connection Platform (DCP), which the latter claims employs ‘innovative technologies suited to developing markets, which create connected solutions to existing problems’. Indosat is the first member of Ooredoo Group to launch this M2M platform, with Qatar, Algeria and Tunisia scheduled to follow later this year. Ooredoo sees the adoption of M2M solutions by various industries as a key driving force for the future growth of Internet of Things (IoT)/M2M technology. In 2020, it is predicted that there will be 50 billion connected devices around the world, enabled through the growing use of IoT/M2M communication.
