Slovenia’s dominant fixed and wireless operator Telekom Slovenije has signed an agreement to acquire the country’s largest mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), Debitel, from existing shareholders ACH, Adria Mobil and Svema Trade. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed. Debitel inked a resale agreement with Telekom Slovenije’s cellular arm Mobitel in October 1998, and in September 2006 added pre-paid services to its portfolio. In June 2014 majority shareholder ACH announced that Debitel was up for sale, with the firm saying that it hoped to raise up to EUR10 million (USD13.6 million).
According to the regulator, the Agency for Communications Networks & Services (Agencija za komunikacijska omrezja in storitve, AKOS), Debitel claimed 3.9% of the country’s mobile user total at the end of September 2014, equivalent to around 88,500 customers. Debitel also joined the fixed broadband market in April 2013 by launching as a reseller of high speed internet services via a wholesale network agreement with quadruple-play operator T-2.
