Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica has clarified that it has no plans to enter any new markets in Latin America, and will instead focus on consolidation in countries where it is currently operational. Speaking during a conference call with investors, CEO Cesar Alierta addressed speculation regarding Telefonica’s possible entry into selected Latin American markets where it currently lacks a presence by saying: ‘We are not going to go to Honduras, Paraguay and Bolivia. We don’t perceive going into other markets at all, since the focus now is in our present footprint and growth there – in which we have seen tremendous opportunities’. The remarks were quoted by financial site Seeking Alpha.
