PON your marks, get set... CNT out of the blocks with high speed fibre

Ecuadorian state-owned telco CNT has begun deploying a GPON-based direct fibre broadband access network with 1Gbps transmission capacity, with the possibility of upgrading to 10Gbps, reports TeleSemana. The initial deployment involves around 800km of fibre including fibre backbone and distribution network connecting 7,000 homes. GPON is being deployed in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil, Ibarra, Guaranda, Tulcan, Riobamba, Latacunga, Machala, Loja, Macas, Tena, El Coca, Puyo, Salinas, Santo Domingo, Ambato, Manta, Zamora, Milenio de Guyabeno and Panacocha.
