Vodafone NZ tests VoLTE

26 Feb 2015

Vodafone New Zealand has confirmed the successful trial of voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) technology at its Auckland test centre. The technology allows for high-definition voice calls, quicker call set-up times and improved battery life due to the lessened requirement for the handset to switch between 4G and 3G networks. A launch date for VoLTE has not been announced. Vodafone’s Technology Director, Tony Baird, was quoted by local tech news portal Geekzone as saying: ‘We’ve continued to develop and invest heavily in our 4G network since we launched the service two years ago – including constantly increasing our population coverage – and we’ll continue to do so as we work towards the commercial launch of VoLTE in the near future.’
