Max selects Diametriq’s signalling platform for its LTE network

Bulgarian wireless operator Max (formerly Max Telecom) has selected Diametriq’s Diameter Solution Suite for its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The voice-over-LTE (VoLTE)-enabled virtualised platform comprises of several core components – Diameter Routing Engine, Diameter Edge Appliance (DEA), and Diameter Interworking System – which provide a programming interface to enable the delivery of custom signalling applications such as silent roamer detection, roamer steering, local breakout and other advanced signalling services. The Diameter Interworking System enables Max to integrate its legacy WiMAX and 4G LTE systems by enabling Data Interworking (dIWF), Voice Interworking (vIWF) and Charging Interworking (cIWF), while Diametriq’s DIA allows Max to handle inbound and outbound roaming with other LTE networks.

Anjan Ghosal, President and CEO for Diametriq, commented: ‘Migrating to 4G can be problematic for WiMAX operators. Not having the benefit of a legacy 3G network makes a seamless transition challenging when it comes to providing out-of-network coverage.’

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Max launched its LTE services in May 2014, with maximum downlink speeds of 75Mbps currently available to 50% of the urban population in ten cities, namely Sofia, Stara Zagora, Ruse, Sliven, Pleven, Bansko, Varna, Bourgas and Plovdiv. In January 2015 Max disclosed that it was in the process of developing ‘an international partnership’, which will allow VoLTE roaming services.
