TRA proposes stricter pre-paid registration process

20 Feb 2015

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain has initiated a public consultation proposing amendments to the current registration process of pre-paid mobile subscribers. The new regulation proposes to impose a stricter verification process for new pre-paid users, as well as requiring licensees to fully update the registration details of existing customers. Director of the TRA’s cyber security department, Khalid Bin Daij Al Khalifa, commented: ‘Due to the manner in which the current registration and verification processes are being conducted, pre-paid mobile subscribers have been found to have several pre-paid SIM cards registered in their name, without their consent or knowledge. This can pose legal and financial risks … should any misuse with these numbers occur.’
