Colombia evaluates possible introduction of FNP in 2015; MNP total reaches 3.5m

Colombia’s Communication Regulation Commission (CRC) is evaluating the implementation of fixed number portability (FNP) during 2015, El Tiempo reports. The regulator is currently conducting feasibility studies on FNP, with a decision expected soon.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Colombia began technical trials of mobile number portability (MNP) in April 2011, with the service seeing a commercial launch on 29 July that year. The El Tiempo article notes that around 3.5 million mobile numbers have been ported to date, with some 1.6 million users changing provider in 2014 alone.
