ComCom clears Orange takeover

16 Feb 2015

Swiss regulator the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) has approved the acquisition of Orange Switzerland by NJJ Capital, a private investment fund controlled by French entrepreneur and the founder of Iliad, Xavier Niel. The watchdog cleared the transfer of the operating licences, saying that competition in the mobile market will not be adversely affected by the takeover. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in December 2014 Xavier Niel’s company agreed to purchase the cellco from its current owners, Apax Partners, for CHF2.8 billion (USD2.9 billion), the French tycoon noting at the time that his firm has been circling Orange since it was sold by Orange Group in February 2012.
