LinkNet targeting 1m subscribers and 30% boost in revenue this year

Internet access provider LinkNet, which provides both hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) and local area network (LAN)-based broadband in Indonesia, says it is looking to break the one million subscriber barrier this year, aided by the recent launch of its multi-screen on-demand content service ‘X1 Combo’. Owned by First Media, the media arm of Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group, LinkNet reported around 700,000 users at end-December 2014, with CEO Richard Kartawijaya saying that he hopes the addition of X1 Combo to the stable, which is initially available in the Greater Jakarta area, Bandung and Surabaya, ‘will contribute a lot to growth’ this year. X1 Combo includes a next generation set-top box (STB), which ties in with First Media Go, the parent company’s content streaming service. LinkNet is also looking to increase its overall operational footprint in 2015, from 1.5 million homes passed at the start of this year to around 1.74 million by the year end. Further, Mr Richard notes that the broadband provider is looking to generate revenue of up to IDR2 trillion (USD157 million) this year, which, if realised, marks an approximate 30% increase year-on-year. The firm is yet to publish its FY 2014 results, but booked revenue of IDR1.55 trillion in the first nine months of the year. ‘Indonesians are still heavy TV viewers with an average time spent viewing of more than four hours a day. On the other hand, internet surfing has put us on the map as the second country in terms of longest time spent online in Southeast Asia,’ Richard told the Jakarta Globe. ‘With more than half the population under 30 years old, we see this as an opportunity to converge the internet and TV experience on one single entertainment device in the living room,’ he added.
