Uninor announces expansion plans

Norwegian-owned cellco Uninor has unveiled plans to expand its footprint in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with the addition of 624 new cell sites and additional investment of INR5 billion (USD80.41 million) in 2015, The Hindu writes. Speaking at a press conference, Uninor CEO Vivek Sood said that the cellco’s network now comprises more than 24,000 sites across the six circles in which it operates, covering more than 50 million people. The cellco has authorisations to operate in a seventh operating area, Assam, but has yet to launch services there. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Uninor was ranked eighth by subscribers in India’s crowded cellular market, claiming 4.5% of the nation’s mobile users with a customer base of 41.82 million at the end of September 2014.
