Congo Telecom targets northern towns for coverage expansion

10 Feb 2015

Congo Telecom (Congotel), the fixed line incumbent in the Republic of the Congo, has reportedly outlined plans to expand its network to the northern towns of Djambala, Gamboma and Owando, as well as Mindouli (close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo). Biztech Africa cited Congotel’s general administrator Akouala Akoula as saying that the operator plans to follow on from expansion in 2014 – during which it connected the towns of Dolisie, Nkayi, Kinkala, Ollombo and Oyo – by extending connectivity to both urban and rural areas, while also pursuing expansion at an international level. ‘Congo Telecom’s long term vision is to become a pillar in the country’s digital transformation and a national leader in ICT, as well as in multimedia content,’ Akoula was cited as saying of the company’s future plans.
