Chinese telecoms vendor Huawei has partnered with BT Ireland to complete a 400Gbps trial over part of the operator’s fibre-optic network connecting Dublin with Belfast. According to Tech Central, the test is the first of its kind in the UK or Ireland, involving the transmission of 400Gbps speeds over existing 10Gbbps, 40Gbps and 100Gbps wavelengths. BT’s core transmission network, along with the 200km distance between the two cities were among the reasons cited by BT for choosing Ireland to stage the tests. BT Ireland now plans to introduce commercial transmission speeds of 200Gbps and 400Gbps over its core network by March 2015.
