SFR launches LTE-A in Lyon

6 Feb 2015

French telco SFR has launched 4G LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) mobile services in the city of Lyon, following the commercial deployment of the technology in Toulon and Toulouse in late 2014. The new network uses 800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum to provide a maximum theoretical download rate of 187.5Mbps, SFR says, although real-world speeds will be somewhat lower. It plans to extend coverage to other major cities by the end of the year. TeleGeography notes that rival operators Bouygues Telecom and Orange switched on their own LTE-A services in June and July 2014 respectively.

Further, the operator also disclosed that 225,000 households in Lyon are now eligible to connect to its fibre-optic networks, with more than eight million households nationwide within its fibre footprint.
