UAE-based Etisalat has reportedly received offers for its majority stake in Tanzanian operator Zantel from South Africa-based Vodacom Group, Bharti Airtel of India and Millicom International Cellular (MIC) of Luxembourg. According to Bloomberg, which cites people with knowledge of the matter, the stake is valued at around USD300 million.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, as at 30 September 2014 Zantel claimed a meagre 5.9% share of Tanzania’s wireless market, equivalent to around 1.75 million subscribers. TeleGeography notes that the three interested parties are already present in Tanzania, suggesting a merger is on the cards.
