14 Jan 2015

Tele2 Russia says it has acquired a 60% direct stake in regional operator Tula Cellular Telephone Service (TCDC); it already owns 40% of the Tula operator through its ‘daughter’ company Tele2 JSC MS-Direct. TCDC operates a mobile network using the IMT-MC-450 standard in Tula and the Tula region. Tele2 Russia says the acquisition will allow it to secure a regional 3G licence in order to construct a 3G network in Tula. The cost of the transaction was not disclosed, although local industry watchers estimates that TCDC – which has around 120,000 to 150,000 subscribers – is worth in the region of RUB150-RUB200 million (USD2.3-USD3.1 million).
