6 Jan 2015

Japanese mobile operator KDDI (au) has launched a 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) smartphone loaded with Mozilla’s Firefox operating system (OS), claiming a first for the country. The cellco has introduced the LG Fx0 device, which offers a 4.7 inch high-definition (HD) screen and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon processor running Firefox OS 2.0, the latest version of Mozilla’s open mobile platform. As well as 4G LTE, Firefox OS 2.0 also supports technologies such as NFC, WebRTC and more, making Fx0 the ‘first Firefox OS phone to include many of these features’, Mozilla claims. The handset is available from au for JPY49,680 (USD412).
