6 Jan 2015

Taiwan-based Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) is preparing to invest USD126 million and commit a team of 200 technicians for 5G communication technology research and development, and is considering a cooperation with Finnish mobile technology giant Ericsson to play a major role in the establishment of a 5G standard in 2016-2018, with the aim of competing against Korea’s Samsung and China’s Huawei, according to quoting a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. Foxconn has recently started seeking assistance from Taiwanese government-related organisations in a bid to become a 5G leader ahead of other Taiwan-based sector players, the report noted.
