Indosat uses Bango to launch carrier billing in Google Play

5 Jan 2015

Indonesian operator PT Indosat has successfully implemented UK-based billing platform developer Bango’s ‘Bango Payments Platform’ in its network, to enable ‘one-click’ payments for Google Play customers. In a press release, the vendor said that the delivery of its billing system will enable Google Play customers on the Indosat network ‘to purchase games, music, apps and other digital content, without the use of premium SMS messages or the limitations of credit cards. Instead, users enjoy frictionless direct carrier billing, charging the cost to their phone bill, without the need to register personal details.’

Indosat is a leading mobile network operator in the Indonesian market, where smartphone uptake is increasing at a rapid pace. Growth in ownership of such devices increased 154% in the year to 31 July 2014, but with smartphone penetration still at just 26%, there is ample room for growth in the coming years.
