Vietnamese telecoms group Viettel generated revenue of VND196.65 trillion (USD9.13 billion) in 2014, an increase of 20% from the previous year, writes VietNamNet Bridge. The military-owned company reported a 15% year-on-year rise in pre-tax profit to VND31.459 trillion, and ended December 2014 with 57.4 million domestic customers, including 55.5 million mobile telephony subscribers, while international wireless customers totalled 17.5 million. State-owned national PTO Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) earned revenue of around VND101.055 trillion and pre-tax profit of VND6.310 trillion in 2014, ending the year with 26 million mobile subscribers, over three million fixed broadband users and roughly one million IPTV customers. Meanwhile, the reports adds that mobile operator MobiFone, which was separated from VNPT earlier this year, recorded revenue of VND36.605 trillion in 2014, a decrease 7.3% year-on-year, although pre-tax profit is estimated to have risen by 5.2% to VND7.300 trillion. The cellco, Vietnam’s second largest by customers, reported a subscriber base of 40.2 million at the end of 2014.
