Windstream has launched an upgrade of its metropolitan and regional fibre-optic networks to 100Gbps using equipment from Cyan, the vendor has announced. Initial deployments of Cyan’s Z-Series packet-optical network systems have begun across ‘major Windstream markets’, the vendor notes, and the network upgrade is expected to improve Windstream’s ability to offer advanced IP services for small-to-medium businesses and higher-speed Ethernet broadband services to residential subscribers. Windstream also plans to use the new capabilities to offer data centre and cloud connectivity and mobile backhaul.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March Windstream launched a 100Gbps upgrade of its long-haul network using Infinera’s DTN-X platform. The second phase of the long-haul upgrade project commenced in October, again in conjunction with Infinera.
