Vodafone Australia deploys Amdocs SON solution

17 Dec 2014

Vodafone Australia has deployed Amdocs’ Self-Optimising Networks (SON) solution as part of a programme under which it aims to improve its 4G coverage and enhance customer experience. Further, it was noted that the solution will help the cellco free up 850MHz spectrum previously used for 3G so that it can be used to provide services based on LTE technology. In announcing the development the US-based vendor noted that its SON solution enables service providers to automate the optimisation of their radio networks, thereby reducing operating expenses and delaying capital expenditure through efficient traffic management. As such, Benoit Hanseen, Vodafone Australia’s chief technical officer, said of the development: ‘The Self-Optimising Network technology is playing an important role in the deployment of our low-band 850 MHz 4G network … and it allows us to differentiate our network experience across our 3G and 4G networks, in particular where we see dynamic traffic behaviour.’
