Mobile service provider Bakcell says it offers Azerbaijani subscribers more roaming partnerships than rival network operators in the country. According to a press release Bakcell has GSM roaming relations with a total of 417 mobile operators across 168 countries, while operating CAMEL (Customised Applications for Mobile network Enhanced Logic) roaming services in partnership with 220 operators in 110 countries, and GPRS (2.5G internet) roaming with 343 operators across 162 countries. It offers three tiers of roaming packages, ‘CIN’, ‘Klass’ and ‘Gold’. Chief technical officer at Bakcell, Yigit Berktash, said: ‘Today, Bakcell customers have broader opportunities to use mobile communication services [in] even more parts of the world…we are working on increasing the number of countries and partner mobile operators, for provision of the CAMEL and GPRS roaming services; and we are very proud to gain the lead in this area.’ Bakcell had 30.5% of the Azerbaijani wireless subscriber market share at 30 September 2014 – behind leader Azercell (46.5%) and ahead of Azerfon (23.0%) – according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
