Sky Ireland to launch 100Mbps broadband via Eircom's FTTC network

Pay-TV provider Sky will offer 100Mbps broadband services in Ireland in January, according to The Irish Times. Via wholesale access to Eircom’s ‘eFibre’ fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) network, Sky Ireland will offer speeds up to 100Mbps to 1.6 million homes by the end of 2015, aiming to attract customers with introductory offers of Sky Fibre Unlimited (featuring no cap on data usage) for EUR30 (USD37) per month for the first six months, and triple-play packages featuring Sky Fibre broadband, telephony and TV services for EUR59 per month for the initial six months. Subscription costs for the unlimited and triple-play packages will then rise to EUR50 and EUR79 per month respectively. JD Buckley, managing director at Sky Ireland, said the introduction of FTTC-based services is ‘an important part of Sky’s continued commitment to invest in Ireland.’ The operator launched DSL services with speeds up to 24Mbps throughout the country in February 2013, via a wholesale agreement with BT Ireland.
