Movistar Colombia notches 300,000 post-paid LTE subs one year after launch

10 Dec 2014

One year after the launch of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, Movistar Colombia has announced that its post-paid 4G user base has reached 300,000. The company notes that the service is currently available in 75 major cities and municipalities, thus surpassing its regulator-stipulated coverage commitments. Movistar claims that this footprint gives it coverage of around 73% of the population. Going forward, the cellco will make its LTE network available to pre-paid users this month.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Movistar launched commercial LTE services in Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla, Cali and Bucaramanga in early December 2013.
