Nakhtel nationwide licence rumour dismissed, Nakhchivan 4G deployment to go ahead

9 Dec 2014

Mobile CDMA network operator Nakhtel, which provides services in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), is not going to become Azerbaijan’s fourth GSM operator, AzerNews has reported. According to the source, NAR’s ICT minister Rovshan Mammadov has dismissed reports from September that Nakhtel was applying for a licence to expand operations throughout Azerbaijan using the 1800MHz and 2100MHz frequency bands, saying: ‘Talks over the expansions of the operator’s service throughout the territory of the country are not true…As before Nakhtel will operate only on the territory of Nakhchivan.’ However, Mammadov did reveal that the operator will be going ahead with plans to roll out a 4G network in NAR, beginning commercial deployment by the end of the year.
