Max to offer voice services over OTT platform?

4 Dec 2014

Bulgarian wireless operator Max (previously Max Telecom) is reportedly planning to offer voice services via an internally -developed over-the-top (OTT) platform. Local news source reports that subscribers will use their own number (beginning with code 0999), although the connection is likely to be established over Max’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX networks, as well as Wi-Fi hotspots and other operators’ networks.

TeleGeography notes that the operator has previously outlined its plans to provide voice services to its subscribers. In an interview with TeleGeography prior to the LTE launch in May 2014, Max’s owner Daniel Kupsin agreed that voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) is a key future trend for voice services, hinting that it could be a point of differentiation for the telco: ‘VoLTE promises to provide better quality digital sound (High Definition voice). We will offer our customers this experience, and utilise our state-of-the-art network, which will allow voice services to be provided more efficiently than is available with other technologies.’
