Euskaltel hands ZTE a ten-year managed services contract

4 Dec 2014

Chinese vendor ZTE has inked a ten-year, network-wide managed services contract with Spanish cableco Euskaltel, which claims to be the largest operator in the Basque Country, with an estimated a 43% share of the broadband access market, 47% of the fixed network market, and 60% of the digital TV market in the region.

With ZTE noting that the deal would ‘cement its headquarters in the Basque Country, which is dedicated to the provision of services for the entire South of Europe’, it will work with Euskaltel to guarantee its network quality, upgrade its technologies, and extend its services. As such ZTE’s regional service subsidiary – ZTE Managed Services Southern Europe – will provide Euskaltel with network-wide managed services including NOC operation, field maintenance, last-mile maintenance, service provisioning and assurance, enterprise customer implementation and assurance.

Commenting on the development, Euskaltel president Alberto Garcia Erauzkin was cited as saying: ‘Euskaltel did not select the cheapest solution or the solution with the lowest expected costs, but selected the solution that is best for Euskaltel’s technology evolution and provides the best conditions (including professional development conditions) for employees.’
