China Tower kicks off in 28 provinces, targets 1m new towers in next two years

Mobile World Live reports that China Communications Facilities Services Corporation Ltd (also known simply as China Tower), the joint venture tower management firm created by China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, has launched in 28 of China’s 31 provinces – excluding Beijing, Guangdong and Zhejiang – C114 writes, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. The 28 provincial branches will gradually take over infrastructure management in their respective regions from the trio of mobile operators and in some areas have already begun construction work on new towers. From 2015, all new towers will be built by the JV, which will roll out more than a million new sites over the next two years to meet the needs of the operators’ 4G infrastructure. Meanwhile, China Tower is expected to take over more than CNY100 billion (USD16.29 billion) worth of existing tower assets from the trio over the next twelve months.
