Orange Switzerland has booked a 4.7% year-on-year decrease in revenues for the third quarter of 2014, on the back of falling ARPU and a stagnant mobile subscriber base. The cellco registered turnover of CHF324.1 million for the three-month period ended 30 September 2014, compared to CHF337.8 million a year earlier. Facing fierce competition from market leader Swisscom and fellow challenger Sunrise, Orange’s mobile subscriber base was flat y-o-y, at 2.141 million. Orange did see a slight improvement in its subscriber base, with the proportion of more-lucrative contract users increasing from 52.3% to 53.7%. The marginal uptick was insufficient to bolster the falling ARPU, however, which dipped 6.5% to CHF41.3. Orange attributed the slump to a reduction in mobile termination rates (MTRs) and a decrease in the volume of SMS.
