Orange considering 800MHz LTE cooperation with Sferia

Orange Polska has revealed that it is considering an offer from 800MHz licensee Sferia to cooperate on the rollout of a joint 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the 800MHz band, Telecompaper reports. CDMA fixed-wireless provider Sferia is the sole Polish operator to have been awarded 800MHz spectrum so far, though the regulator UKE is currently in the preliminary stages of an auction of frequencies in the 800MHz and 2600MHz bands. There have been calls for all operators to unite to deploy a single nationwide network in the 800MHz range; Polkomtel has suggested this would cost around PLN 1 billion (USD294.7 million) in total, while the cost of rolling out individual networks could cost each cellco around PLN660 million. Orange already partners with T-Mobile Poland in an infrastructure sharing joint venture dubbed ‘NetWorkS!’, while Sferia’s sister firms Aero2, CenterNet and Polkomtel are already cooperating with their 4G build-outs.
