Telefonica to use eVolution Networks software solution to cut energy costs

21 Nov 2014

Israeli tech start-up eVolution Networks has reportedly secured a deal with Spanish telecoms group Telefonica under which the latter will use its software to reduce the energy consumption of its base stations. According to the vendor, its software solution reduces energy consumption levels by deactivating the redundant capacity of base stations during low traffic, with algorithms allowing it to adapt capacity to network demand. It is understood that Telefonica will begin to roll out the system across its Latin American units in the next few months, and once installed, it is expected that Telefonica will see energy consumption fall by around 35%. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
