SingTel inks MoU with Huawei to develop 5G technology

20 Nov 2014

Singapore Telecom (SingTel) and Chinese equipment maker Huawei Technologies have announced the signing of a joint initiative to work on the development of fifth-generation (5G) mobile broadband technologies. As such, the pair have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch their ‘Fifth Generation (5G) Joint Innovation Program’, a press release said. The project will serve as the basis for their joint efforts in which, ‘both parties shall … set up a team to conduct the 5G trial which will deliver the near-zero-delay and near-zero-distance experience to SingTel’s customers,’ the release noted. SingTel and Huawei believe that the commercial operation of 5G mobile services is expected to start globally by 2020 and is estimated to provide 1,000 times more capacity than existing cellular networks.
