Free BT Wi-Fi launched in Tesco stores across Ireland

19 Nov 2014

BT and Tesco have partnered to provide ‘free and fast’ Wi-Fi in 113 stores throughout Ireland, according to a BT press release. Shoppers simply have to select ‘Tesco Wi-Fi’ or ‘BT’ on their smartphones or tablets to access the service. Group technology director at Tesco, Tomas Kadlec, says: ‘We were the first supermarket in the UK to offer free Wi-Fi and the first to launch online shopping. We’re now bringing these innovations together,’ while Geraldine Casey, IT director at Tesco Ireland, adds that the facility is: ‘a natural platform to link our expanding online service…Tesco is the largest online retailer in [Ireland] with…our grocery home shopping service now reaching 86% population coverage.’ The free Wi-Fi service is also offered in UK-based stores.
