Vodafone Ghana (formerly Ghana Telecom), the country’s second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, is reportedly planning to list on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) soon. Citi FM Online cites the company’s CEO Haris Broumidis as saying: ‘I think [listing on the bourse] is the plan and ambition of the shareholders because you know we have two shareholders – we have Vodafone Group and the government of Ghana. I am not a shareholder but as a chief executive officer, I believe that the shareholders have it in their minds that at a point in time the company must list on the GSE.’
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the majority of national PTO Ghana Telecom was acquired by Vodafone Group in August 2008 for USD900 million and rebranded in April the following year. The Ghanaian state retains a 30% interest in the operator.
