Supermarket Chedraui inks MVNO deal

Mexico’s third-largest supermarket, Grupo Comercial Chedraui, is poised to enter the country’s emergent mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) sector, using Movistar’s network, the cellco’s parent company Telefonica confirmed last week. Chedraui reportedly inked a deal with Movistar on 12 September, following in the footsteps of Maxcom (launched in September 2007), Megacable (October 2011) and Virgin Mobile Latin America (June 2014), all of which piggyback on its network. A provisional launch date for the new virtual operator has yet to be revealed.
