Slovakia: over 5bn minutes of mobile calls in first half

Slovakia’s Office for Electronic Communications & Postal Services (RU) has announced that the country’s mobile phone users generated more than five billion minutes of calls in the first six months of 2014. 62% of call minutes were between users on the same mobile network, while 31% of calls were off-net, 4% were to international numbers and 3% of minutes were to domestic fixed line networks. A total of 1.2 billion SMS text messages and 21.5 million MMS multimedia messages were sent in the first half. Slovakia was home to 6.63 million cellular subscribers at the end of June, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, with Orange claiming 42% of the overall market, while Slovak Telekom had around 34% and O2 had 24%.
