Swedish vendor Ericsson has announced the completion of a project carried out for Egyptian operator Etisalat Misr which will reportedly provide the latter’s subscribers with ‘more flexible on-demand data subscriptions to mobile broadband and ADSL services’. As part of Etisalat Misr’s ongoing efforts to enhance both its mobile and fixed broadband offerings, Ericsson was reportedly contracted to replace its previous Policy and Charging Rule Function (PCRF) with the Ericsson Service-Aware Policy Controller (SAPC). In addition, the Egyptian service provider will use Ericsson’s Integrated Policy and Charging (EIPC) solution to enhance the services on offer, with this enabling subscribers to request and update account information and check balances and bonuses in real-time. In addition to software solutions, Ericsson also provided professional systems integration services to meet Etisalat Egypt’s requirements, including: supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the new PCRF (Ericsson SAPC), swapping out the existing PCRF, and integration with the charging system.
Commenting on the development, Etisalat Misr’s chief information technology officer Khalid AlMansouri noted: ‘Providing our subscribers with the most advanced services is essential for Etisalat Misr to achieve its long-term vision for both our business and the industry in Egypt. We are pleased to be working with Ericsson once again and through strategic collaboration we have been able to provide enhanced services and packages to best serve our subscribers.’
