Vodafone adds Netflix to Red tariff range

13 Nov 2014

Vodafone Germany has started offering new customers of its ‘Red’ smartphone tariff range free access to over-the-top (OTT) video streaming service Netflix for six months. After the initial free usage period, subscribers will be able to continue receiving the service on their phones, tablets and PCs for EUR8.99 (USD11.2) per month. Vodafone’s Red plans offer flat rates for voice, SMS and MMS, as well as access to the firm’s 4G LTE network with maximum speeds of 100Mbps and a data allowance of 1.5GB, 3GB or 8GB. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, US-based Netflix added Germany to its portfolio via the signing of a distribution partnership agreement with Deutsche Telekom (DT) in September. Under the terms of the deal, Netflix’s application was made available on the telco’s ‘Entertain IPTV’ platform, and was also added to all Entertain set-top boxes.
