Liquid Telecom outlines FTTH progress; service now live in Zambia, Zimbabwe

13 Nov 2014

Regional internet service provider (ISP) Liquid Telecom has revealed that its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service, which is capable of delivering download speeds of 100Mbps and comes with unlimited data, has gone live in Zambia and Zimbabwe, with plans to launch FTTH on a wholesale and retail basis in Kenya, Rwanda and two additional countries early next year.

CEO Nic Rudnick also revealed that the company is laying more than 100km of new fibre every week, and its backbone network now spans more than 18,000km. The executive added: ‘Our FTTH service has made accessing streamed, high-definition media via the internet a reality for homes and small businesses in some of the remotest parts of Africa. As a household or business in Africa, you cannot really benefit from global internet services unless you have a high-speed fibre connection in addition to a mobile device.’
