Hong Kong broadband operator Hutchison Global Communications (HGC), has announced that its total of ‘HGC on air’ outdoor Wi-Fi broadband internet hotspots has exceeded 16,000, up from 12,000 at the start of the year, which it claims makes it Hong Kong’s largest-scale Wi-Fi service provider. The HGC Wi-Fi network is available to HGC fixed network subscribers and the mobile users of its sister cellular operator 3 Hong Kong. Furthermore, over 5,000 ‘HGC on air’ access points are now served by 1Gbps optical fibre backhaul, compared with around 1,000 at the start of the year, Hutchison added in its press release.
