Singaporean internet service provider (ISP) ViewQwest has announced plans to start trials of a residential fibre network trial capable of delivering maximum data speeds of 2Gbps. The test launch, only the second anywhere in the world behind Japan (i.e. So-net), will commence in the first half of 2015 involving between 20 and 30 tech ‘savvy’ customers ahead of a full-blown launch. No details have however, been revealed on when the service will be available on a commercial basis. With rival Singapore ISPs announcing plans for 1Gbps service plans aimed at residential users, ViewQwest’s 2Gbps offering will give it a significant advantage over the local competition.
