Zimbabwe’s NetOne launches LTE

12 Nov 2014

Zimbabwe’s state-owned cellular operator NetOne has launched Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband services, bringing the country’s first commercial offerings for 4G handset owners. Mobile market leader Econet Wireless has already introduced LTE but only for users connecting via compatible modems. Although details on service availability and rollout plans are sketchy, NetOne is advertising its 4G offering as ‘the fastest internet connectivity platform in Zimbabwe through mobile phones at the moment,’ ITWeb Africa writes. A spokesperson from NetOne’s marketing department commented: ‘There are frustrations with mobile internet accessibility in Zimbabwe at the moment and the introduction of 4G through mobile phones will solve such problems as it is a high speed option.’
