Etisalat announces network upgrades

Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the latest progress of its network expansion and upgrade work, with the operator now claiming 88% population coverage on its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. In addition, the firm is now upgrading its 4G networks to LTE Advanced (LTE-A) technology, doubling maximum theoretical download speeds from 150Mbps to 300Mbps. Etisalat also says it has been busy during 2014 deploying base transceiver stations (BTS) to boost indoor coverage in public areas of buildings, shopping malls and airports, with 6,000 indoor BTS now in service.
