TUI to launch MVNO for travellers

10 Nov 2014

German travel company TUI will launch a discount mobile telephony service next month using the wireless network of Telefonica Germany (O2). The mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), known as TUI Connect, is aimed at travellers looking to use their smartphones and tablets abroad at lower rates. Customers will be able to subscribe to the new services either via a fixed-term contract or on a pre-paid basis. ‘Mobile communications has become a major part of the travel experience,’ commented Kai Czeschlik, CEO of TUI Connect, adding: ‘International roaming costs are perceived as a major element of uncertainty by our customers. TUI Connect will give holidaymakers the possibility to use their tablets and smartphones abroad as they would do at home.’
